top Sephora products to treat yourself to during quarantine (and after)
We’ve been blogging a lot about products you can make yourself or hacks to get your through these challenging times but let’s be honest, it’s always nice to treat yourself to something special! While the current conditions are making that a bit difficult, most retailers are still shipping and Sephora, in particular, is in the middle its Spring Savings Event (one of only two sales it puts on all year). The sale dates and percentage of savings depend on what level of BeautyINSIDER you are, which you can verify here, but in any case, it’s a great opportunity to stock up on essentials and a splurge or two. Below we’ve put together our favourite self-care products available at Sephora, most of which won’t break the bank, as a nudge to treat yourself to a little luxury!
#1 herbivore rose quartz gua sha
If you haven’t heard of Gua Sha, it’s an ancient Chinese practice that many modern beauty brands ranging from Goop to Miranda Kerr’s KORA Organics hail as a beauty must. It involves stroking the skin with a smooth stone and oil in a downwards motion, which is thought to expel toxins and awaken the circulatory system. While we’ve not researched the validity behind this, we have noticed our skin to be less puffy after the treatment and the coolness of the stone just feels nice, so we’re fans. The process can take as little or as long as you have time for and in the morning or evening or both! We suggest pairing with whatever oil you may already be using on your skin or taking some time to research an option that works for your skin type on Sephora.
With respect to specific tools, we like Herbivore’s massage tool because it’s easy to hold and it’s one of the more affordable options on the market at just $24.
#2 vitruvi sleep face and body mist
We like having a quick but regular bedtime ritual to get us ready for a good night’s sleep, and a mist is a great addition to this routine. We love this one by Vitruvi in particular because it’s specifically meant to relax with its blend of lavender and chamomile.
This mist is free of sulfates, parabens, and other harmful ingredients and is vegan and cruelty-free. Simply spray from 10 inches away onto your face and body or give your sheets and pillow a spray just before bed!
Pro tip: If, like us, you care about what you're putting on your skin, consider looking for the "Clean at Sephora" image on the products you shop. Products with this image are certified by Sephora to be free of parabens, sulfates, thalates, and up to 50 more ingredients. They also have less than 1% of synthetic fragrances!
#3 briogeo scalp revival stimulating therapy massager
If the scalp massage you get at your hair appointment is your favourite part of the appointment, this product is for you. This handheld scalp massager is good for all hair types and is such a treat. Like we said for Herbivore’s Rose Quartz Gua Sha, the massager is intended to increase circulation but science aside, it just feels nice! The massager can be used dry without any products or with an oil as well as wet in the shower with your favourite shampoo or treatment. You’ll want to use small, circular motions with medium pressure to prevent unwanted tangling!
#4 herbivore coconut milk bath soak
We promise we’re not being endorsed by Herbivore; we just love their products! We’ve replaced this soak almost every time it’s run out because we love it so much. Good for most skin types, this soak’s main target is dry skin, so it’s a great bath option for the cooler months. You’ll want to add your desired amount to the bath just before you get in while the water is running so you can enjoy the release of oils.
Did we mention that this product, and most if not all of Herbivore's products, meet that Clean at Sephora certification that we outlined above? It's another reason we love their line of products so much!
#5 erno laszlo multi-task eye mask serum
This wouldn’t be a self-care products list if we didn’t have at least one mask! While these Erno Laszlo eye masks are a bit of a splurge, they do come in a pack of six and we promise they’re worth it! The masks are good for most skin types and work to decrease the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines and wrinkles. To use the masks, apply them under the eyes to clean and dry skin. Be sure to avoid direct contact with the eyes! You’ll want to leave them on for about 10 minutes before removing and gently massaging any remaining serum into your skin. You can use the masks daily, but we apply only as needed for a self-care night!
#6 slip silk pillowcase
In our opinion, this is the one must-have product on the list. Yes, it’s expensive, but we’ve been sleeping on a silk pillowcase since Christmas and noticed the benefits over your typical cotton pillowcase almost immediately. The reason is that cotton does not slip, which is really just a fancy way of saying that it doesn’t allow the skin on your face and hair to glide across its surface as you move around while you sleep. Silk, on the other hand, does which means there is less tugging on the hair and skin throughout the night and therefore less breakage in your hair and less creasing and lines on your face when you wake up. Slip’s silk pillowcase is 100% silk but is machine washable. We’ve also put ours in the dryer and have not noticed any issues, though it may be best to lay flat to dry.
For a full silk sleep set-up, you may also want to consider adding a silk sleep mask and scrunchie into the mix if you like to block out light and tie your hair up at night. Slip makes all of these products, which can be purchased at Sephora as well, and there’s even a set for the pillowcase and mask.
